Relaunch of The Children’s Trust’s Miami Heart Gallery to Feature New Portraits of Foster Children Available for Adoption in Miami-Dade

Museum-Quality Exhibit of Photographs Taken by World-Renowned Photographers to Open at The Freedom Tower

WHAT:     The Children’s Trust Miami Heart Gallery is a traveling, museum-quality exhibit featuring portraits of children in Miami-Dade’s foster care system who are available for adoption. The exhibit marks the relaunch of the Miami Heart Gallery, featuring new portraits of children recently added to the initiative. The portraits capture the unique personality of more than 58 children who were photographed at Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and Amelia Earhart Park earlier this year by world renowned photographers, all who donated their time and talent.

WHO:    The Children’s Trust Miami Heart Gallery is a partnership between The Children’s Trust and Our Kids, the private agency responsible for foster care and adoption in Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys. According to the state of Florida, more than 1,500 foster children are eligible for adoption in Florida and approximately 150 of them live in Miami-Dade. Most of these children have been removed from their biological parents owing to abuse or neglect. On average, 41% of them remain on adoption waiting lists for two years, 22% for up to three years, and 37% wait more than three years.

WHEN:    Saturday, June 13 through Sunday, July 12, 2009. Open to the public Tuesdays thru Fridays, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. and on Saturdays, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. The exhibit will subsequently travel to different venues throughout Miami-Dade County.

WHERE:   The Freedom Tower, 600 N. Biscayne Blvd., Miami, FL 33132.

DETAILS:   The exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information, call The Children’s Trust Helpline at 211 or visit www.miamiheartgallery.org.

The Children’s Trust is a dedicated source of revenue established by voter referendum to improve the lives of children and families in Miami-Dade County.
